NEW YORK
After a long delayed flight of 3 hours on Friday night we arrived in New York. We caught the bus to our hotel in Time Square. The place was buzzing and the bright lights around the area were incredible. We arrived at our Hotel (THE CARTER HOTEL) for further reference never ever stay there. The place was disgusting - sure it was haunted, there were holes in the walls and I am sure the bed had fleas!
Saturday morning we got up nice and early and ventured to Statue of Liberty - we were at the gates by 7.45am and ticketing opened at 8am - there were no ques so walked straight on to the first ferry. We spend a good 3 hours taking the necessary photos of the statue and slowly in Nathan's case reading up on the history of it all. We headed to Seaport where we managed to get our half price tickets for the Broadway show and booked them to see "The Producers" that night. Went to Macey's (biggest department store in the world), walked fifth avenue, walked a shitload more around the city, hung out at seaport and brought some clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch, went to Ground Zero visitor centre - talk about feel like you were attending a funeral it all felt very serial walking in there seeing the posters of missing people, watching the screens and reliving the whole experience again yet knowing it was right in the area you were standing. At one point they had the names coming over the screens to which a girl standing beside Nathan just burst into tears. The boxes of tissues around the place sure came in handy. We left there feeling quite sad.
The Producer's was an amazing show rated tops in New York at the moment starring Tony Danza - remember from Taxi and Who's the Boss - he was wicked and the show was so entertaining and funny.
This morning the alarm went off nice and early again and we headed to Empire State to which we managed to dodge the ques and walked straight in. Took more photos!!! We headed to Central Park and had a good look around - saw Rod Stewart and his wife on a horse and cart through Central Park. Lots of people doing there Sunday exercise. Decided to head down Fifth Avenue again - the part we had missed - the most expensive part. Nathan did his spot of celebrity watching and saw Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys - you wonder how Nathan knows him- he owns there whole CD collection!!!!!! Kidding - he saw him but recognised him from House of Carters on TV here.
Went to Maddison Square Gardens before getting the train to Newark Airport New Jersery.
Lots of things done in such a short space of time but feel we managed it all pretty well, although it does feel like we haven't had a break so hopefully the week goes fast.
One more weekend to go in Toronto before we head to London!!!!!!
