Germany Trip - Heildburg and Oktoberfest 2007

We had a wonderful holiday meeting up with family in Heildburg where we spent the first couple of days catching up with Rainer, Kerry and Jakarta. Weather was fanastic and a nice way to relax before we were to inbark on a 3 day drinking bender at Oktoberfest in Munich.

We arrived to meet the other members of our group on Friday in Augsburg. We stayed in a hotel which was about 40mins by train outside of Munich. Saturday was opening weekend and we were up and ready to go by 5.30am this is important as we did not want to miss out on a good spot in one of the beer tents. We were lined up ready to go at 7am ready for a 9.30am opening. Talk about scary as soon as the doors opened we were pushed and slammed through in a giant stampeed to find a table for our group of 10. Finally after running around we found tables next to each other and waited patiently to be served the first beer about 12.45pm after the first keg was tapped at 12.00pm.......we partied the night away and enjoyed the many steins brought to us by the beer wenches.

Day 2 was a slower start to the day and great weather again so decided to spend the day in the beer garden this time which was a little bit more flexible to come and go as you please as the tables were not so in demand like inside the beer tents. This day we managed to have a look around the festival and go on a few rides as Oktoberfest is also like a huge amazement park with roller coasters, log rides, giant drops etc...... We made another good day of it and managed to gain a spot in the tent once the band started playing all the classics and danced the night away on the tables...

Day 3 - Nathan's 26th Birthday - minus a few mates as most of them had headed on to other destinations. Phil, Kim, Nathan, Anna, Marcus and Kev headed in for another look. This day was going to be a little more relaxed taking in the atmosphere and going on some more rides without drinking to much beer.....things changed and we celebrated Nathan's birthday in style...

We loved Germany but were very happy to be back in London after a very long weekend
